How many people can I get around a table?
On average you can fit the following:
90cm / 3ft : 2-4 people
120cm / 4ft : 4-6 people
150cm / 5ft : 6 people
180cm / 6ft : 6-8 people
210cm / 7ft : 8 people
240cm / 8ft : 10 people
270cm / 9ft : 10-12 people
300cm / 10ft : 12 people
Bear in mind that if you squeeze in more seating the end chairs will not be able to be pushed under the table when not in use.
Benches allow for more people to sit around a table, especially if some are kids! For example a 6ft table with one bench and the rest as chairs will easily accommodate 8 people.

How is my table top finished?
Our table tops are finished with a durable wax that cures like a varnish within 3 weeks of application. They are dry to the touch within minutes and hardened after 1 day but it takes several weeks to fully cure. During this time they are susceptible to water marks and scratches. We would always recommend using place mats for mealtimes, coasters for hot drinks and placing any heavy objects on a cloth to protect your table. Any spills should be wiped up immediately with a dry cloth. It is not advisable to cover your table with a tablecloth for extended periods of time, especially when you first get the table, as it needs to acclimatise evenly (i.e. both sides of the table top) to it's new environment
After the first 3 weeks they are splash-proof but not 100% waterproof. This means that water spills, food spills etc. will not mark the table if wiped up after the end of a meal for example.
How can I clean my table top?
Tables can be wiped with a damp cloth or mild cleaner/wipe. Avoid using harsh detergents as any solvents or chemicals may break down the wax which over time will make your table top less durable.
How do I maintain the surface?
To refresh the surface of your table we recommend re-waxing at least once a year. Every 6 months would be preferable.
To do this simply use a mid grade sandpaper (80-120 grit) and gently rub the surface by hand in line with the grain. This removes the previous wax. Your sandpaper will quickly clog up with the old wax so change frequently. If desired you can finish with a lighter grit (180 or higher) to give a super soft smooth finish before waxing however this is not a necessity for our rustic style of tables.
Apply several light coats of a soft furniture wax as directed by the tin, leaving a few hours or a day in between. If you re-wax too soon before the wax has dried you will simply be lifting the first coat and re-doing it. Each brand is slightly different so follow their own instructions.
We suggest Briwax, Fiddes or Liberon for high quality finishes. Our Antique finish is ‘Rustic Pine’ Briwax and Scrubtop is 'Honey' but you can choose any tone to lighten or darken your table top.
Help! My table got scratched!
Sand back the table as above on the area required, don’t be afraid to use some pressure as you will need to remove the wax layer as well as the very top surface of the wood. Apply wax as above, leaving plenty time in between for your wax to dry.
What if I want a more durable finish?
For a much more hardwearing finish you can opt for a matt varnish or waterproof hard wax oil. These leave more of a shine on the surface but are a useful option for those with youngsters or for commercial environments.
